Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical Live is an upcoming TV special during Christmas premiered on 9 December 2020 on NBC. It is an adaptation of “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas!”The Musical. The musical was based on Dr. Seuss’s children’s book “How The Grinch Stole Christmas!” The musical, theatrical play stars Matthew Morrison, BooBoo Stewart, and Denis O’Hare.
The plot of the play follows a small-hearted Grinch who does not like the Christmas season. Hence, he ruins the festive week for the people of Whoville.
TODAY.com reported that NBC would release another live musical this year. NBC hosted the event during the holiday season where people can bring their families and the awareness for the musical theater, slowly fading away. However, the event of this year would be slightly different than in other years. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no audience for the show. The team has organized the musical play at the Troubadour Theatre in London, and the performance will be aired on NBC.
During the interview with ET, the actor Morrison shared that he got the inspiration from Phoenix’s Joker and created his version of Grinch. The actor said both the characters result from the bitterness of the society that made them villains. Initially, Morrison did not feel that his character would dance at all. Still, after watching the scene from Joker where Phoenix put on Joker’s makeup and dances on the steps, it inspired the actor. After that, he also creates some evil moves for the Grinch.
The Tony award-nominated actor said he did not want the Grinch to be a good dancer. Then he saw Phoenix’s moves in the movie; they were loose, carefree, abandon, and “raw.” And Morrison felt like how his character would dance. At first, he did not feel it like very Grinch-y; however, later, it felt right to him.
Morrison is a dancer, singer, songwriter, and actor known for his famous role as Will Schuester on the TV show Glee. He later starred in the lead role of J.M. Barrie. However, many viewers were not impressed by the performance of the actor or his appearance as Grinch. However, NBC is representing something larger this year. Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical Live is the first full-length musical play broadcast on the National level since the lockdown.
